Matthew Paige “Matt” Damon famously known as Matt Damon is an American actor, screenwriter, and producer. Born On October 8, 1970 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Usborne to Kent Telfer Damon, a stockbroker, and Nancy Carlsson-Paige, an early childhood education professor. Has a younger brother Kyle Damon who is a famous sculptor. After his parents’ divorce both brothers were raised by their mother. Since childhood Matt Damon and Ben Affleck became close friends and studied at same school. Since childhood he participated in school dramatic Club’s plays. Later he attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Both Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were
Considered first choice for biggest roles in plays and for long speeches.
After his schooling he attended Harvard University from 1988 to 1992 in English Language subject and lived in Lowell House but dropped out without graduating to pursue his acting carrier with his first movie Geronimo. In Which he had a small role. The film was a big flop.
Acting Early Carrier:
While at Harvard University Matt Damon acting for many films. In 1992 his first big project was Geronimo: An American Legend. But film was unsuccessful among audience. After four years he was chosen for Courage Under Fire, 1996 for which he had to lose 40 pound weight for his small role of two days shooting. But this sudden Weight loss made him sick and was admitted to hospital. Famous American newspaper Washington Post reported his performance as “impressive” in its movie review section.
After struggling for long time in acting carrier Matt Damon and Ben Affleck together wrote a script about a young math genius. But no one in Hollywood agreed to produce movie, later together with director Kevin Smith the made their first movie “Good While Hunting” in 1997. The movie was a hit and received nine Academy Awards
nominations. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck won the best screenplay awards. While Matt Damon was nominated for “Academy Award for Best Actor” for the same film in which he also did the main role. The film made a gross of $255 million on Box Office. Later in 1997 Matt Damon’s movie “The Rainmaker” was also a big hit and was acclaimed for his acting skills. Matt Damon was later signed by famous Hollywood Director Steven Spielberg for his movie on World War II “Saving Private Ryan”.
Later he did many role in movies but some became commercially successful at box office. From 2001 Matt Damon gained his international recognition from two major films. Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen” alongwith famous actors Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Later his fame peaked with assassin character “Jason Bourne” played hit action thriller movies The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). For which he was nominated for “MTV Movie Awards” and in 2007 was listed at top of actors for best box office performance list by Forbes. After many un notable movies he works in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Informant” in 2009 for which he was nominated for Golden Globe. His films have grossed a total of U.S.$1.94 to U.S.$2.42 billion at the North American box office, placing him in the top forty grossing actors of all time. In 2011, he starred in The Adjustment Bureau, Contagion, We Bought a Zoo, and voiced a krill in Happy Feet Two.
Matt Damon is working with Steven Soderbergh on his next project “Behind the Candelabra”. Matt Damon will also star in “Elysium” along with Jodie Foster.
Matt Damon along with his childhood friend Ben Affleck founded the production company “LivePlanet”.Their first production was a documentary series “Project GreenLight” which was later nominated for Emmys for Outstanding Reality Program in 2002 to 2005.
Matt Damon was the founder of “H2O Africa Foundation”. He, along with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, David Pressman, and Jerry Weintraub, is one of the founders of Not On Our Watch Project, an organization that focuses global attention and resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities such as in Darfur. In 2011, the
documentary which he narrated, American Teacher, opened in New York prior to national screening.
Matt Damon dated his Good While Hunting co-star Minnie Driver. In 2003 while shooting for his movie “Stuck on You” he met Argentine-born Based Luciana Bozan Barroso in Miami where she was working as bartender. Both after a long relationship of two years marries in 2005 at Manhattan Marriage Bureau near New York City Hall. Damon became stepfather to Luciana’s daughter from previous marriage, Alexia. In 2006 the couple had their first daughter born Isabella in Miami, Florida. The couple’s second daughter, Gia Zavala Damon, followed on August 20, 2008, also born in Miami. A third daughter, Stella Zavala Damon, was born on October 20, 2010 in New York. As of 2011, Damon and his family reside in Manhattan.
Matt Damon is fan of Boston Red Sox. He is a great poker player and has participated in several World Series of Poker events.
